In the demanding environment of Forserum Quarry, Daniel Back, Machine Operator at Bjursells operates a Cat 352F excavator equipped with a 3.2 cubic meter rock bucket from SMP, purchased in 2022.

The harsh conditions of the quarry require a robust and efficient tooth system to ensure minimal downtime and reduced wear on the equipment. Traditional tooth systems, according to Daniel, were unnecessarily complicated and inefficient. Frequent replacements and the need for a blacksmith to travel from Jönköping for repairs led to significant time loss and increased operational costs.

I thought that the traditional systems were unnecessarily complicated and had seen C-Rex on other machines out at work sites and how smooth it seemed to be. That made me want to try it myself. I’m the first in the company with C-Rex”,  Daniel says.

The solution

Daniel decided to test the C-REX tooth system from Combi Wear Parts, a decision that made him the first in his company to adopt this solution. The C-REX system, known for its market-leading durability and Swedish manufacturing quality, offered a perfect fit for the demands of the quarry.

The C-REX system includes:

  • 5.5″ teeth (R35)
  • Tooth holders (wear caps)
  • Heel shrouds
  • Side cutters
  • Corner and blade protection

The results

The C-REX system delivered immediate benefits. The design of the C-REX teeth and reinforced holders resulted in significantly lower operating costs due to extended tooth life. The easy and quick replacement process, taking only five minutes per tooth, allowed Daniel to minimize downtime, compared to the previous half-hour it took with the old system. Daniel noted:

With C-REX, the bucket cuts through the rock more easily, even under tough conditions.

Efficiency: 96,000 Tons with Minimal Wear

The efficiency gains have been substantial. For example, the latest set of teeth on Daniel’s excavator achieved an impressive throughput of 96,000 tons before replacement. Even during challenging tasks, like earthmoving at the Brusaholms wind farm, where the machine operated 11 hours a day, the wear on the C-Rex teeth was minimal. William Hylander, workshop manager at Bjursells, expressed his satisfaction with the choice of C-REX, citing the quick return on investment and reduced need for frequent, costly repairs. He emphasized:

We can save up to ninety hours of repair time on a bucket. I only see advantages with C-Rex.
